Minimalist Rugs

A minimalist rug has a plain or very simple pattern in a limited colour range, so it adds texture and shape without drawing attention. It suits rooms with clean lines and few decorations.

Cream, beige, grey and black are the usual choices. A tonal pattern in one colour adds interest without breaking the calm look.

It works in living rooms, bedrooms and home offices where you want a quiet floor. In a living room, choose a size that lets the front legs of the sofa and chairs sit on the rug.

An 8x10 or 9x12 suits most living rooms, and a 5x8 or 6x9 suits a bedroom or office. Size names are rounded, so check the actual size shown under Size on each rug.

A light, simple rug in cream, beige or grey keeps a room feeling open. Choose a size that leaves a border of bare floor so the room does not look crowded.
